More About Anatomy Works

Owen's enthusiasm and dedication to the pursuit of knowledge leads to a never ending list of qualifications, courses and the study of countless philosophies and theories. As a result this web site is already out of date! Owen is very likely to have started another line of inquiry or study to further his understanding. Below is an explanation of some of the major milestones in his education.

Owen is a certified teacher of Anatomy Trains and teaches across Europe.

Owen's work has greatly benefited from his diverse range of experiences and qualifications. After completing a sports science degree at Bangor University Owen spent a year working as a fitness instructor and personal trainer. He then went back to university to pursue a master’s diploma in sports psychology. A year in San Antonio, Texas saw him playing and coaching basketball at a high level. Returning to Britain, Owen took up an anatomy and physiology lecturer position at Esher Sixth Form College. He has successfully completed his massage qualifications at the London School of Sports Massage and is a member of the Institute of Sport and Remedial Massage. Owen also gained the prestigious title of structural integrator for the KMI school where he studied under Thomas Myers, James Earls, Lou Benson and Lauren Christman amongst others. He is a member of the International Association of Structural Integrators.

He continues to learn and regularly attends courses and lectures, most recently with Gary Grey, Mary Bond, Til Luchau, Robert Schleip and Divo Muller. Between courses he actively keeps up to date with the latest research and ideas.

Owen has lectured at a number of universities with an enthusiasm and insight that is infectious with his students.

Having moved from London Owen set up and ran a very successful practice near the Peak District. He works with a wide variety of people, from elite sports people to sedentary office workers, and encountered and dealt with numerous different injuries and issues. Now he is happily settled  in the south east where he works in his spacious clinic.

When not working Owen is a keen runner and climber and practices tai chi and yoga, although most of his spare time is spent with his family.

Putting the Soul in Anatomy

There are places, just as there are people and objects and works of art, whose relationship of parts creates mystery, an enchantment, which cannot be analysed, (Paul Nash, 1949)An effective human being is a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts (Dr Ida Rolf).  The human form, explained fully not by an anatomist or biomechanics expert like me, but by the artist. The closest we have to an understanding of the essence of the human form is through movement. Fred Aster, Michael Jordan, Darcey Bussell, have a poise, beauty and grace that amazes. Their movement is one that fully expresses the human condition. It is within the work of Structural Integration that the relationship within that can be explored and improved. A development of ones self perception, awareness and beauty of the essential essence of self that is movement. Structural Integration gets to the fabric of this essence of being human. So our aches and pains, our frozen shoulders, plants fasciitis and a multitude of other issues are improved, eased or removed by this work. In doing so it takes one on a journey of self discovery otherwise left to the geniuses of the artistic and sporting world.Owen Lewis is a Structural Integrator, movement analyst and anatomist. He runs a busy private practise in Downham Market. Owen lectures across Europe to specialists of other forms of bodywork, including Physiotherapists, Osteopaths and Surgeons, and teachers of Yoga, Pilates and various sports coaches. He has trained with some of the greats, most notably, Thomas Myers author of Anatomy Trains. He works with everyone, young and old, office workers to elite sports people.Owen Lewiswww.anatomyworks.co.uk
